« Quand il fait beau c’est pas plus moche qu’ailleurs!… », c’est le portrait sonore de mon territoire, le département de la Meuse, aux prises avec un gigantesque projet d’enfouissement des déchets radioactifs de l’industrie nucléaire française.
Opportunité économique inespérée pour certains, décharge nucléaire à haut risque pour d’autres, cet enfouissement, s’il se réalise, changera l’avenir du territoire pour toujours.
En 2017 quand je commence cette enquête, l’opposition au projet connaît ses premiers succès juridiques contre les représentants de l’industrie nucléaire.
Deux ans après, il n’y a quasiment plus d’opposants sur le terrain. Les autorités françaises ont démantelé la ZAD (zone à défendre) locale et offert 500 millions d’euros supplémentaires pour le développement du territoire et faciliter l’acceptation des populations locales.
Mais en 2019, après 25 ans d’études dans la Meuse, les ingénieurs ont encore bien du mal à garantir la sécurité de la poubelle la plus dangereuse du monde…
