L’ancienne école de gendarmerie déménage et les « casernes » du boulevard Général Jacques se libèrent. L’ULB et la VUB conjointement vont en faire un nouveau campus ouvert sur la cité et ses besoins. Il comprendra un institut d’Études avancées spécialisé dans les questions d’urbanisme, un centre de recherches interdisciplinaires sur l’économie circulaire (forme de développement durable), un « fab-lab », une maison d’accueil internationale pour les étudiants et chercheurs étrangers, et des logements. Il doit incarner une redéfinition de ce que doit être une « université » ouverte sur la société du XXIe siècle. Usquare est son nom. Le lancement du chantier aura lieu au printemps.
