in this edition recent sounds from a perpetual favorite of recent years, manja ristić‘s sargassun aeterna is composed from field and hydrophone recordings from portugal, scotland, croatia and serbia, along with violin, synths, and shells. from here we await dawn, with 3 dawn recordings from various wildlife sanctuaries and forests in india (gujarat, tamil nadu, and madhya pradesh) by a. bhaskar rao, also known as mustard lake. madeleine cocolas retraces steps first taken 20 years earlier in her ancestral homeland of greece, collecting sounds representing moments in time, connecting past with present and tethering memories to place. and lance austin olsen & gil sansón give voice to the warrior, through olsen’s own voice reading his poem of the same name, old radio play samples, field recordings, amplified objects, electric trainer guitar, piano, melodica, and amplified objects. all this held together in a web of sounds from the aporee soundmaps, this week by radio aporee itself (germany), krzyk bogdan (poland), cybearth (u.s.), and c4r3ful.cr34tur3 (u.s.). and we began the journey with a framework introduction recorded for us in the u.s. by scottish artist jimmy peggie.
