Une « liste de Cobain » (d)étonnante qui mêle une rare érudition à un sens quasi inné de la découverte.
Chaque mercredi midi de 12h30 à 13h30, l’équipe de PointCulture ULB vous offre une heure de découvertes musicales, parfois des concerts live, du café et du thé, dans une ambiance très conviviale. Du son sur tes tartines est LE rendez-vous musical incontournable de l’ULB.
Ultime symbole générationnel du XXème siècle disparu il y a tout juste deux décennies, Kurt Cobain est sans doute celui pour lequel la distance entre l’avéré (ce qu’il a effectivement dit, écrit ou enregistré) et le domaine du fantasme est la plus grande. Ainsi, dès le départ, le rock pratiqué par Nirvana est associé à un pseudo mouvement « grunge » qui n’existe que dans la tête et le dessein de ceux qui ont cru y voir un juteux filon à exploiter toute affaire cessante !
Pour preuve, cette liste écrite de sa main, reprenant les 50 albums qui lui étaient indispensables. On n’y trouve aucune trace de ses « prétendus pairs musicaux », Pearl Jam, Soundgarden et consort, mais bien un panaché assez fouillé entre quelques « classiques » (David Bowie, The Beatles, The Clash), un beau tir groupé de formations punk (Iggy & The Stooges, Wipers, Sex Pistols…) et hardcore « old school » (Black Flag, Bad Brains, MDC…), ainsi qu’un bel échantillon de rock « indie » (Pixies, Breeders, Sonic Youth, Mudhoney, PJ Harvey…) et de post-punk millésimé (PIL, Gang of Four…). Outre la quasi absence de hard rock & metal (Aerosmith et l’anomalie Melvins mise à part), l’Américain surprend pas un penchant plus qu’affirmé pour une pop irréductible, intimiste en clair-obscur (Young Marble Giants, Vaselines, Beat Happening…), ou encore pour son attachement prononcé à quelques singularités doux-dingues (Daniel Johnston, Jad Fair, Leadbelly).
Une chose est certaine, l’homme avait à la fois une définition très personnelle du « bon goût », et un sens aiguisé de la découverte. Grunge is definitely dead ! (YH)
